Alchemy
It's curious and revealing that some of the earliest "picture books" are of alchemical images. My personal transmutation has been about recreating myself through imagery. Waking up has been the acceptance of our souls as eternal. Inseparable from each other, the god head or the cosmos. Personal alchemy has inspired me to acknowledge myself and others as having a physical and emotional journey while being part of the planet, society and cosmos simultaneously.
Alchemy is an ancient art at the heart of which lies the manufacture of a mysterious substance called the philosopher's stone, the legendary object which transforms base metals into gold.
The gold symbolizes enlightenment and eternal life, alchemists are concerned with their own spiritual and personal development as well as the pursuit of gold. The work of the alchemists was necessarily clandestine and it's secrets are still held in symbols, pictures, references, double meanings and riddles.
